THE ISLAND OF HELIOS (KYTHIRA)
Our tenth stop is The Island of Helios, or Kythira. Kythira is on the south western side of Greece. It's population is 3,354. It's elevation is 319 m. It's industry is Tourism. Kythira is a island filled with merchants, sailors and conquers. Kythira was said to be the birthplace of Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty. Another fact about Kythira was that Homer and Hesiode called Kythira "The holy island" because it was the first place that had a temple for Aphrodite. In Odysseus's journey, they stop at a island were Helios's cattle live. Odysseus tells his men not to eat the cattle while he's gone praying to Athena. When Odysseus falls asleep praying to Athena, his men eat the cattle. Odysseus yells at his men and says their going to get punished. When they sailed off, Zeus trows a thunderbolt at Odysseus's ship. Odysseus's ship was destroyed, and everybody died, expect Odyseus. So, Kythira is a wonderful place to visit. You should visit Aphrodite's temple. Have fun!
