The Island Of the lotus eaters (chios)
Our third stop is The Island of the Lotus Eaters, or Chios. Its population is 30,000. Its elevation is 1,297 m. Its industry is tourism. Chios is located just short miles off the coast of modern day Turkey. People in Greece call the gum from Chios "The Tears of Chios" because the island produces gum which is harvested off the trees. People call them tears because the gum is tear shaped. In Odysseus's journey, Odysseus and his men arrive on a mysterious island near Chios. Odysseus sends his men to retrieve food, but Odysseus had to go and save his men after they ate the Lotus Flower which made his men want to stay on the island and never leave . Chios is a beautiful place to visit. Enjoy it! Don't forget to try the gum!
