the island of the sirens (rhodes)
Our eighth stop is The Island of the Sirens, otherwise known as Rhodes. Rhodes is on the south eastern side of Greece. It's population is 100,000. It's elevation is 1,216 m. Their Industry is raw minerals. Rhodes is so spectacular that it has one of the Seven Wonders of the World standing their. The Wonder of the World is The Colossus of Rhodes. The Colossus of Rhodes is a big statue of a man holding a light. You would think it's just a statue, but it's actually a lighthouse. This huge, amazing statue has stood for almost 56 years! In Odysseus's journey, Odysseus see's an island in the distance, and remembers what Teiresias said and told his men that Island was the Island of the Sirens. If they didn't put beeswax in their ears, they would be drawn by their beauty an singing and would be eaten. Everybody put beeswax in their ears, expect Odysseus. Odysseus didn't put beeswax in his ears because he wanted to hear the song. So, Rhodes is a fun place to visit. Don't forget to visit the Colossus of Rhodes, and have fun!
